One of the hardest parts of doing business is having tough conversations with difficult people and yet, it’s a constant that HR practitioners, leaders, and managers must address. In “Bringing Ease to Hard Conversations,” HR professionals will learn how to coach their leaders and partners to make discomfort feel more manageable and clear the way for better outcomes. Whether the difficulty lies with the leader or their employee or both, the tools discussed in this workshop will address the true needs at hand and pave the way towards the best possible solution. We will also address challenges specific to remote conversations, such as reading nonverbal cues, building trust through digital channels, and setting the tone with clarity and empathy via video or written communication.

Participants will leave empowered with the following takeaways:

  • A framework for distinguishing between needs and wants that reframes the conversation around the best possible outcomes

  • Mechanisms to address resistance that create acceptance and preparedness around discomfort

  • Guidance for scripting a productive conversation based on communication preferences of both the leader and the employee

Best practices for delivering difficult messages in a virtual format and adapting communication tone across digital mediums
