The 5 Shifts of THEN to NOW Leadership

Many of us struggle with how to best lead our teams in today’s fast paced, messy, cut throat business climate. We face challenges which did not exist twenty or even ten years ago. But the prevailing methods of leadership come from the past, having been handed down from past generations of managers and executives.

But what worked back THEN does not work NOW.

The old ways of leading do not reflect new realities and are failing to inspire new generations. Outdated leadership approaches are reducing productivity, increasing turn over, squashing the potential of our people and ultimately are killing profits. But what if the way we lead our teams matched the pace of our rapidly changing world? What if we moved from slow moving silos to fast execution at the customer facing front line? What if we shifted from top down, command/control leadership to a more bottom up, purpose driven and human centered approach?

Seasoned leadership expert, highly acclaimed ultra-endurance competitor, academic and military peacekeeping commander Urs Koenig knows first-hand the importance of shifting gears and adopting new methods in order to win. He has done this his whole life reinventing his unique career path five times (and counting). Along the way has developed a proven system to shift our leadership from what we used to rely on back THEN to what we need to do NOW.

Organizations and leaders that embrace shifting their leadership to match our ambiguous and fast-moving world gain competitive advantage. They drive shareholder value and have the bandwidth to focus on what matters most: taking care of their team members and delighting customers.

Positioning your company to win the hearts and minds of candidates

Good branding starts with knowing who you are in the minds of your most important audiences. For a long time, we presumed that our most important audience was made up of end users. But times have changed. There has been a shift in power to the employee who in turn has become the most important vehicle for our brands. With this in mind, companies today should prioritize building their employer brand – that is, what their company means to employees and candidates – and use this as a way to establish or strengthen their position in the market and drive growth.

Building a strong employer brand should start from within. By finding out what people love about working for your company and what common values guide their work, you will uncover what makes your company unique as an employer. According to LinkedIn, 52% of candidates look at a company’s website during the recruitment process. This means that your website is center stage right now. It has the potential to carry those messages that will enable your company to achieve its goals. From face value, it’s difficult to tell how effective your website actually is. However, if you know what to test, you can use tools (such as Google Analytics) to make informed website decisions that position your company to attract the right talent.

Join Hansen Belyea Strategic Director Brianna Home for this presentation on how to develop your employer brand and use your website to win the hearts and minds of candidates.

Moving Beyond Diversity: How to Pivot from Inclusion to Belonging

The research is clear—inclusive environments are performance enhancers. They are characterized by higher productivity, less turnover and more resilient cultures. Organizations with employees who feel like they belong outperform the competition by as much as 202% . They are committed and passionate about the work they do, resulting in higher performance and lower turnover rates. Leaders who know how to cultivate positive emotion tap into an endless well of psychological capital – hope, optimism, confidence, resilience and belief – that has the power to keep people and teams innovating, creating value and more successful even in tough times. While basic research has shown that diverse and inclusive teams are better at problem-solving and fostering a global outlook, so many professionals still struggle with building strategies for the modern workplace that maximize inclusion and belonging at all levels. When advanced from a human and humane perspective, (DEIB) challenges can become valuable opportunities for workplace inclusion, increased productivity, stronger team collaboration, and competitiveness amongst your market peers. This session will help professionals at all levels understand the varying levels of inclusion, and demonstrate how strategic (DEIB) learning can build truly inclusive workplaces. Attend and learn the real, tangible, and actionable steps to building a better workplace culture, using a proven method for culture change.
