Volunteer as a Mock Interviewer
Use Your Expertise to Help Students
Hopelink is looking for hiring managers and HR professionals from local companies to volunteer as mock interviewers! Can you help?
Hopelink offers English for Work classes to help prepare immigrants and refugees for the U.S. workforce. Each quarter Hopelink holds mock interview events for our students. Mock interviews occur during regularly scheduled class time, and many students have told us that this is the most valuable activity in the course.
General Information
Volunteers play the role of hiring managers to interview our students. Hopelink will assign each volunteer 1-4 students to interview and will supply them with the following: a job posting that each student has selected to be interviewed for, each student’s resume, interview questions, and feedback forms. When volunteers interview students, they pretend they are the hiring manager of the company from the job posting. So, if a student has selected a job posting for a cashier job at Fred Meyer, the volunteer will pretend he/she is a Fred Meyer hiring manager. (Imagination and role- playing skills are necessary!) After each interview, volunteers provide feedback and encouragement.
Goal: Help students build confidence and identify areas for improvement in order to prepare them for REAL job interviews!
