Last year Sara Dnell and I came up with the idea that LWHRA needed a forum to discuss ways of integrating diverse areas of expertise into the HR profession. Our mission is to promote dialogue about OD (Organizational Development), ST (Systems Thinking), and Coaching and HR, within an intercultural environment. After a few months of planning we had our first meeting of the newest "HR and Its Connections SIG" in February at the Bellevue Library.

Our first meeting featured the President and Vice President of PNODN (Pacific Northwest OD Network), Rachel Dexheimer and Joey Pauley, students and alumni from OSR, the (Organization Systems Renewal) program at BGI, and several members of LWHRA.

We set the tone for an open and positive exchange of ideas where learning, not solutions, are the goal. Our dialogue centered around two questions: How much do OD, Systems Thinking, and Coaching and HR enrich each other? How does the intercultural environment play on HR and its connections?

The feedback we received was invaluable; it's helping to shape the direction of our next meeting. On Thursday, April 3, our featured guest speakers will be Beverly Parnell and Joe Macias, both Leadership Development Consultants within MultiCare Health System in Tacoma.

Topics they will cover are:

  • How does the Human Potential structure integrate OD practices to impact key business metrics for a 10,000+ employee organization?
  •  What happens when alignment and collaboration between the three arms of: Human Resources, Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership Development are optimized?
  • What are plans to further deploy an integrated organizational development approach within Human Potential to meet the rapidly changing needs and challenges of a dynamic healthcare system?

Our meetings are free so please come and join in the discussion. It will enrich the experience of everyone, especially you! We will be meeting at Bellevue City Hall, Room 1E-108  from

5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Click here to register. We hope to see you there!

HR and Its Connections will be meeting again in June, August, October, and December. Locations, times, and guests are pending and will be updated on our website and in our newsletter as the details are confirmed.
