October 2021 Virtual Chapter Meeting:

Allyship starts with “You.”

with Tisha Held

Presentation Description:

Value leadership is being clear about your values so you can align your actions and create a positive impact that shifts the culture. During the session we will walk through activities that will help clarify your values and your why that impacts how you show up and interact in your day to day. Self-reflection is not enough if you want to  be an ally. To be an ally, you need to use your privilege to advocate on behalf of others who do not have the same opportunities that may be available to you. Self-reflection only touches the surface and maintains your comfort. Self-interrogation is uncomfortable yet necessary to hold yourself accountable. Self-interrogation is about pushing past what you think you know and believe about yourself. It’s about breaking down biases and structures that protect a way of thinking. There is a difference between impactful allyship and performative allyship. We will discuss those differences and learn techniques to stay open after identifying barriers.
