August Chapter Meeting

Collaborative Conflict Resolution: An Oxymoron
Presented by: Gary Ford

There are few things more time consuming than dealing with unresolved conflict in the workplace.  Triangulation, or becoming a ping pong ball between two employees who aren’t able to resolve their own friction, takes valuable time from line managers and Human Resource professionals and doesn’t always lead to a satisfying resolution.  In this short webinar, we’ll explore are all too often ineffective approaches to workplace conflict and take a deeper dive into three effective approaches to minimizing unresolved workplace conflict.

  • A quick overview of the Five Dysfunctions of a Team model and how it can be leveraged to set teams up for success.
  • Three psychological games humans play that enable them to avoid dealing with conflict.
  • Provide coaching questions that can be used to self-coach or coach others who are struggling with how to address unresolved conflict
  • An approach to kicking off sensitive conversations.
  • Practical examples of concrete steps HR professionals can take to support team leaders and employees with being candid without escalating sensitive issues.
  • A simple approach to mediation and lessons learned about when not to engage in it.

You will learn three approaches to dealing with workplace conflict:

  • Taking preventative steps to optimize team dynamics
  • Coaching others to resolve their own conflicts rather than becoming the referee (good for HR professionals and team leaders)
  • Intervening as a mediator when a business problem is caused by strained relationships
