LWHRA Career Support and Transition SIG

Whether you are unemployed, want to begin exploring making a change or just want to proactively manage your career this groups goal is to provide positive support and keep you moving forward! We will talk about the process of change and its impact on you, clarifying career goals, network with peers, share job ideas, identify your "burning question(s)" and have round table discussions. We will also have practical tips and or an activity in each session that supports you in landing that next job! Plus, on occasion, special guest speakers!

Deploying Adaptive Leadership

“The most common leadership mistake is treating adaptive challenges as if they were technical problems. “ So says Ron Heifetz, founder of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School, in laying the foundation for critical role of Adaptive Leadership. This new way of looking at the age-old practice of leadership is uniquely positioned to help decision-makers deal with the cultural shifts and seismic upheavals that have become all too common in today’s marketplace. From front-line staff to C-suite executives, Adaptive Leadership provides an approach that can help people and organizations find their way to sustainable success.

This interactive session will introduce attendees to Adaptive Leadership and allow them to walk away with new tools in their personal leadership toolboxes, including:

How to understand the differences between technical problems and adaptive challenges
How to get "on the balcony" to diagnose systems of behavior
How to assess who needs more adaptive training to increase their success and the success of your organization

About our speaker: James Whitfield is the President and Executive Director of Leadership Eastside, an organization that informs, equips, and connects East King County’s leaders in order to meet the community’s needs. James’ executive experience spans the for-profit, non-profit, and government sectors, including having been a White House appointee to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Cost is $34 for LWHRA members and $49 for non-members. Attendees are asked to pre-register and pre-pay via our website registration process. If pre-paying by check, please mail to: LWHRA, 603 Stewart St., Suite 610, Seattle WA 98101.

Registration Deadline: 5:00 PM, Thursday, March 1, 2012.

Refund Policy: LWHRA sets its registration fees as low as possible in order to make educational opportunities widely available. We will gladly issue refunds for event registrations that are canceled before the registration deadline. Because we need to make venue arrangements and order refreshments in advance, we are unable to refund registration fees after the deadline. No-shows who have registered but not paid in advance will be billed. Substitutions are always welcome. Please request your substitute to inform the registration desk that they are attending in your place.

Waiting List: If the registration deadline has passed, you are welcome to arrive at the venue at 11:00 am and enter your name on the waiting list. We will accommodate walk-ins whenever space is available. The onsite registration fee is $44 for LWHRA members and $59 for non-members.

Member Support: The Member Support Program provides free meeting attendance to LWHRA members. To be eligible for up to six months of meeting attendance, a member must be unemployed and a chapter member for at least one year.
